Eco-friendly options: Bamboo, cork, ...
It is becoming increasingly popular to use environmentally friendly materials in building and home decorating. There are naturally renewable flooring choices available, as well as recycled ones. Bamboo is a great naturally renewable eco friendly flooring choice. It is a rapidly replinishing grass and now comes in a wide range of colors and widths, not to mention that it is harder than some species of hardwoods. Cork is another great option, it is actually the harvested bark of a tree, and the same tree can be harvested periodically for over a hundred years. Don't forget that cork is also highly moisture resistant and a great sound reducer. As far as recycled materials go, there is even carpet available that is manufactured from recycled bottles. Laminates are available made from recycled tires, and glass tile can be purchased that has been manufactured from a portion of recycled glass.
